How Coppens Academy Has Responded to COVID-19

To make things easier for parents as we move into the hectic start of the school year, we’ve compiled everything you need to know about how COVID-19 has changed things at Coppens Academy. Please note that all policies, procedures, and guidelines are subject to change but we’ll always do our best to keep our families in the loop.

Policy and Guideline Changes

New Operating Hours

Both of the Coppens Academy locations are currently open from 7:15am to 5:15pm, Monday to Friday.

Face Coverings

All staff in childcare facilities in Ontario are required to wear face masks and eye protection (i.e. face shields). Parents must wear face masks when picking-up and dropping-off their children.

Notices for Absences

Parents are required to contact Coppens Academy and provide a reason for their child’s absence when not they will not be attending daycare.

Doctor's Note for Prescription Medication and Allergy/Asthma Symptoms

Parents must provide a doctor’s note when sending their children to daycare with prescription medication. Parents are also required to provide a doctor’s note when a child is attending daycare while experiencing symptoms of seasonal allergies or asthma (runny nose, coughing, shortness of breath, itchy eyes, etc.).

Interac e-Transfer Delays

With so many parents opting to use Interact e-Transfer for fee payment lately, we’ve been having trouble with our daily e-Transfer deposit limit. Please note that e-Transfers may take a few days to be deposited due to these limits.

Covid-19 Tests

Parents must notify Coppens Academy if their child or a direct family member has taken a Covid-19 test. Families who have recently taken Covid-19 tests may not return to Coppens Academy until negative test results are received. Please contact the office of your Coppens Academy location to receive an outbreak suspect reporting number when completing a Covid-19 assessment.

Items Brought to Daycare

Parents are encouraged to send their children with an extra set of clothes and a refillable water bottle to be left at daycare. Parents of preschoolers and toddlers may leave a blanket at Coppens Academy. Unfortunately, toys; including stuffed animals, are not permitted at this time. As much as possible, items that are brought to daycare must stay at daycare. Blankets and water bottles will be washed daily.

Drop-off and Pick-up

Only employees are currently permitted to enter the childcare premises at Coppens Academy. As such the front doors are usually locked throughout the day. Please call the office when picking-up and dropping-off children if the doors are locked. Only one family at a time may be in the vestibule at our front doors, so please try to be quick when dropping-off and picking-up your children.

New Entrance for Before-and-After School Program at Golden Mile Road

In order to keep appropriate separation between our classrooms, we’ve added a new entrance on the side of the building at our Golden Mile Road location. Parents are asked to use this new entrance when dropping-off and picking-up children in our Before-and-After School Program. Children will be screened just outside of the new entrance prior to entering the building.

Update – July 17, 2020:
We just received a memo from KFL&A Public Health’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Kieran Moore. As of July 17, childcare facilities are no longer subject to the mandate requiring masks to be worn indoors. At this time, it is at the discretion of our staff members whether or not they choose to wear face coverings, however we will be continuing with all of our other increased safety measures and policies as we continue to follow the guidelines and recommendations set by our medical experts and government. Please note that parents are still required to wear face coverings when entering the vestibule at our front doors, and only employees are permitted to enter the building proper. Please click here if you’d like to read the memo or click here if you would like to read the revised order from our Medical Officer of Health.

Update – July 16, 2020:
